Borders of Assembly was part of my graduation at Design Academy Eindhoven in 2019 and laid the foundation for my design practice. This collection later evolved into what is now the Tension collection.

In industrial manufacturing, materials are defined by standard sizes, and every machine is calibrated to these dimensions. Rather than seeing this as a limitation, I treat it as a framework for exploration. Within these constraints, new possibilities arise.

Sheet metal, often folded to suppress its natural flexibility and achieve rigidity, becomes in this work a source of potential. Its inherent spring-like properties are harnessed, and combined with precision manufacturing, a distinct formal language emerges: the flexibility of metal is used to lock pieces together due to the sheet’s force of bending back to it’s original shape.

Every borders of assembly object is made out of exactly one standard sized sheet of metal.
